Rose Coloured Glasses:
an exploration of reminiscence and anxiety

Rose Coloured Glasses is a zine I created in association with the AUArts Student’s Association’s HEAR/D Studio Residency, for Exposure Photography Festival. The residency encourages participants to create work based on themes of mental health and resiliency.

This zine was shown at Contemporary Calgary art gallery from February 10th - March 27th, as well as the Marion Nicoll Gallery from February 7 - 18th, and the reading room of the Esker Foundation.

I created this zine as a very personal work based on my struggle with over-thinking and wanting to be able to focus on the present moment, free from melancholy about the past or anxiety about the future. In this work I dissect my own experiences and memories using photos that I’ve taken over the last 5 years. I collage, edit, mask, and alter these images to create new shapes and patterns, simulating the passage of time on my memories as they warp and become distorted from reality.

This zine was created with pictures taken on my phone camera, the Procreate app, and Adobe InDesign.
